MIKE ZITO AND THE WHEEL
Songs From The Road (2014)

Uncle Mike comes back without his Royal Southern Brotherhood and a CD/DVD pack recorded in Texas. Just note that some songs on the DVD are not on the CD and vice-versa. So however it's a really good show that presents here Mike Zito with the Wheel (Bass, Drums, Keyboards and Saxophone). Show begins with "Don't Break A Leg" a funky blues song and followed with the melodic "Greyhound" a kind of big American Rock song with a nice slide guitar solo. For the very beautiful ballad "Little Red Corvette", Mike takes an acoustic guitar and let the sax plays the music. That's pity, I should have enjoyed a guitar solo. Then back to the rock with "Rainbow Bridge" and a nice slide guitar. Then arrives "Pearl River" a beautiful Southern Blues with the Allman influence you will sure enjoy. "Hell On Me" is a Texas Blues Rock with a good guitar solo, a little bit just what did Stevie Ray Vaughan. "C'mon Baby" is a blues full of soul song, with a good sax solo. But guitar is back on the Blues Rock "Judgment Day". Mike's intro shows how gifted he is ; and it's really impressive on the DVD with a killer guitar solo. All the musicians can play their solo on "Dirty Blonde", a blues in BB King style. Mike has a real inspiration and his guitar sings on that song. Then we get "Substraction Blues" a Chicago Blues, and the superb "Gone to Texas" just like what the Allman Brothers did with a Dickey Betts solo.

On the DVD we can get "I Never Knew A Hurricane", a melodic ballad, and "One Step At A Time" that looks very Springsteen. Mike invites a little girl on the encore and sings "Let Your Light Shine On Me" alone with his acoustic guitar. Then he finishes with the slide blues "Natural Born Lover", and "Texas Flyer" another funky blues song. Bonuses are fans interviews and three acoustic songs.

I haven't seen any re-recording on that DVD. That's a good testimony of Mike Zito talent and technique. He is a gifted artist full of inspiration who offers his audience joy and emotion. Support live music!
